Sallie Barber Mine Trail

Sallie Barber Mine Trail

I am on a mission to find and hike kid friendly trails around Colorado! I want to share the information parents actually care about when planning a hike.

Hiking with kids, especially toddlers, is a daunting task. Something that seems unenjoyable for everyone involved. The more we hike the more I’m learning that hiking with kids can be a wonderful experience. Picking the right trails and preparing properly are key!

I am fully aware that there are a handful of apps that tell you all the information about a hike. I use the AllTrails app often, it’s how I find most of the hikes we plan. However, it lacks crucial information for parents. Most apps include the option of filtering the “kid friendly” trails, but they don’t explain how kid friendly the trail is. Is it easy enough for a toddler? Or does it require a carrier for kids under 4? I want to pass on the information you need to make it successful for your entire family.

Every review will begin with an easy-to-read table containing all the basic information about the trail. Below the table will be detailed images of the hike from the MapMyRun app. I use this app while hiking to record the elevation change, distance, and time. It can be used without internet signal which I find extremely helpful. Below the app images will be very detailed information specifically for parents. Helpful advice on how to find the trail head, what to pack, how to dress, and any hidden gems along the way. I will also include pictures from our hike throughout the blog, my adventure buddies are pretty cute!

Our pup, Remi, wears an electronic collar. She is restrained at all times.

My first review is the Sallie Barber Mine trail. It is a short family friendly hike outside of Breckenridge, with a fun piece of history at the top!

Helpful Information for Parents:

Parking: The parking lot is on the right side of the road as you head to the trail address. Once you park, continue down the road you were driving on. The trail head marker is on the right side of the road, a few minutes past the parking lot.

I had internet signal the entire hike and did not need to download the trail map ahead of time.

The trail is easy enough for the whole family - kids, grandparents, dogs, etc. It is uphill one way, we took frequent breaks which helped. I saw some people using poles but I didn’t think they were necessary. There was a seasonal creek and waterfall that added to the scenic beauty.
