Keystone Gulch Trail
ššØšššš¢šØš§: Keystone, Colorado
šš¢š¬ššš§šš: 18.1 miles total (we did 6.2 miles)
ššš²š„š: Loop
šššÆšš„ šØš šš¢ššš¢šš®š„šš²: Easy if you stay on Keystone Gulch Road the entire hike, moderate if you start with the trail. If you hike the entire 18 miles it would difficult - not because of the trial itself but because of the distance.
šš„ššÆššš¢šØš§ šš”šš§š š: 2,700 ft total
ššš«š«šš¢š§: the first 2.5 miles of trail is heavily shaded. There is still a small amount of tree coverage on the road, but it is mostly open. The trail is narrow and very steep in some areas as you walk in the forest along the creek. A few trees were fallen on the trail. The road portion is wide and gently sloping.
šŖš”šš ššØ ššš: Beautiful forest scenery, running creek, wild flowers in the spring and changing aspen leaves in the fall.
šš¢š©š¬: We began hiking the trail, when it met with the road we continued an extra mile or so the base ski area, then took the road back to the parking lot. If you are with kids I suggest doing this loop, or even just looping back after the trail meets the road (~ 5 miles total) You have to share the road with bikers, horses, and cars. It can get very dusty. My two year old hiked the first 1.5 miles with us on the trail until he was ready for a nap. There are a lot of roots and rocks that slowed him down but he did it!
