Clinton Gulch Dam Reservoir
Mila & I enjoyed this beautiful trail last week! Half of the hike is open along the shoreline, the other is tucked in the woods surrounded by foliage. I’m glad we went before the snow came because it was already getting muddy + slick!
📍Clinton Gulch Dam Reservoir
Location: Between Frisco & Leadville, Colorado
Distance: 2.4 Miles
Style: Loop
Level of Difficulty: Easy
Elevation Change: 232 ft
🪨 Terrain:
The trail is mostly flat, there were only a few spots where I did a little jump or needed my poles. What makes this trail challenging is the elements. Parts of the trail cross streams and rocks. It’s narrow and windy, and in the shade it was icy and slick.
👀 What to See:
Beautiful views of the gulch with sound of water hitting the coastline throughout it the hike. Even though you’re next to the highway it’s still peaceful and quiet.
📝 Tips:
- The shaded side had snow and was slippery with the mud + fallen pine needles. The open side had a lot of running water, mud, and rocks to cross.
- The trail is not toddler friendly but older kids would enjoy it! Mila enjoyed the hike from the comfort of her carrier.
- There are two large parking lots at the trailheads right off highway 91. There’s a section of the trail where you have to walk next to the highway - this section connects the parking lots. If you want to avoid hiking by the highway you can hike it out and back in a horseshoe.
- Cell signal is spotty - I planned to be without
- There are no restrooms 🥲
- As always, please leave no trace
