I’m Thankful for Grey’s Anatomy

I’m Thankful for Grey’s Anatomy

I love Grey’s Anatomy! It’s one of those shows I can watch anytime. The other day Will asked me how I could still watch it after Liam died, how it wasn’t a trigger for me.

I was surprised by his question, I guess I had never thought about it. Ironically enough it was what I was watching on the morning Liam died. I was a stickler about Liam sleeping in his own bed. But on that morning I let him sleep on my chest while he took his morning nap, while I drank my coffee + watched Grey’s Anatomy.

I started thinking about it today, as I’m watching Grey’s Anatomy. I started from season one, episode one again recently. I’m serious about it being my go-to show!

Yes, I tune it out or fast forward when I know a child is about to die or is dying. Yes, that is a trigger for me. But I remind myself that it’s just a show at the end of the day. The actors do a wonderful job but they aren’t feeling that same pain I felt.

Honestly, watching Grey’s Anatomy has changed my perspective on losing Liam. It’s made me realize that it could have been much worse.

I’m thankful Liam died suddenly, quickly and painlessly.

I’m thankful we never had to watch him struggle and fight for his life.

I’m thankful Liam didn’t die in a hospital bed, surrounded by machines and wires and tubes.

I’m thankful we didn’t spend his entire life at doctors offices searching for a cure.

I’m thankful we had 324 amazing days with Liam. No pain, no tears, just love!
